GARMIN Foretrex 601

Features:

  • Wrist top device, robust, very handy
  • Easy to read display with background illumination (200x128 pixels)
  • Multilingual user interface in Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish
  • Integrated GPS receiver with very sensitive built-in antenna, supports GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellites
  • Electronic compass to check heading while not moving¹ (can be turned off so safe power)
  • Barometrical altimeter for precise elevation recording²
  • Heart rate monitor, requires optional chest belt with heart rate sensor. The chest belt uses a digitally coded signal, which means, once a heart beat sensor and the GPS have been paired, the GPS will never receive a conflicting signal from another sensor. So you can exercise in close proximity to other sensors without fear of interference.
  • Speed and cadence monitor, requires optional speed and cadence sensor. Measures the number of revolutions of the back wheel and the crank arm with magnets and a wireless sensor. Like the heart rate monitor, this sensor uses a digitally coded signal. Once paired with the Oregon 550t, the GPS will never receive a conflicting signal from another sensor. So you can exercise in close proximity to other sensors without fear of interference.
  • Powered by batteries (2x AAA, last about 48 h in GPS mode, 1 week in UltraTrac mode and 1 month in watch mode)
  • Short time to first fix (TTFF³: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available)
  • Supports WAAS/EGNOS
  • Supports many different datum (coordinate systems)
  • Supports various display formats include the Swiss Grid
  • Firmware stored in Flash-Memory, can be updated by the user
  • Operating temperatures -20 .. 70°C (-4° .. 158°F)
  • USB interface (connection cable included)
  • Dimensions: 74x44x23 mm (2.9x1.7x0.9 inches)
  • Weight: 88 g (3.1 ounces) including batteries
  • Water resistant up to approx. 3 feet (1 meter) for about 30 minutes (IPX7)
  • ¹) In order to check the heading with a GPS, a minimal movement with a speed of at least 5..8 km/h (3..5 mi/h) is required. Where no movement is not possible, a compass is needed.
  • ²) Even though a GPS provides accurate elevation information, the value slightly varies continuously. A barometrical altimeter is therefore more accurate, especially when summarizing elevation changes.
  • ³) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the current position is acquired.

Information for navigation:

  • Stores up to 500 waypoints with name (up to 8 characters), icon (choice of 31 symbols) and coordinates
  • Stores 20 reversible route with up to 125 waypoints per route. Shows the current position in relation to these waypoints (direction and distance)
  • Current position (longitude, latitude, altitude)
  • Current accuracy of the position information
  • Information about the course (turn, off course, to course)
  • Estimated travel time to the next waypoint, rsp. to the final destination
  • Estimated arrival time at the next waypoint, rsp. at the final destination
  • Current time
  • Current bearing
  • Current, average and maximum speed
  • Trip duration and distance (Odometer)
  • Stores up to 10'000 track points(travelled path)
  • Time of sunrise and sunset
  • Supports metric, nautical and U.S. units
