| The Overlander supports the Russian GLONASS and the European Galileo satellites |
Very rugged all-terrain GPS device for navigation on the road and off-road, with 7 inch color display, GLONASS and Galileo support, integrated pitch and roll gauges, electronic 3D compass, barometrical altimeter, integrated base map, pre-installed street map of all of Europe, Middle East and Africa including Tracks4Africa, slot for µSD memory card, Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi and USB interface.
The GARMIN Overlander is equipped with an integrated base map, pre-installed street maps of all of Europe, Middle East and Africa including Tracks4Africa and supports autorouting. Campground directories of ACSI, Campercontact, Trailer's Park and iOverlander are also pre-installed. Use the Garmin Explorer app to download additional maps and satellite imageries and to synchronize waypoints, tracks and routes with your smartphone or computer. The Overlander is equipped with built-in pitch and roll gauges, an electronic 3D compass (3D = tilt-compensated compass which means the device doesn't have to be held level for accurate reading of the heading), a barometrical altimeter, 56.2 GB of memory - of which 35.6 GB are free - plus a slot for an µSD memory card. It can communicate via Blue Tooth and Wi-Fi, has an microUSB connector, a 3.5 mm audio connector, supports optional wireless backup cameras and can be paired with Explorer devices to send emergency messages. The Overlander provides detailed graphical and spoken directions and supports voice-activated navigation, which means you can operate the device with spoken commands. The built-in battery lasts for up to 3 hours, in cars it can be powered from a cigarette lighter. This device cannot only receive the signals of the U.S. GPS satellites, but also of the Russian GLONASS and the European Galileo satellites. This provides improved accuracy of the position indication, particularly under difficult conditions such as in cities with tall buildings, in narrow valleys, near steep cliffs and in dense forests. Android-based operating system, but does not support installation of additional apps from the Google Play store.

This GPS device has no built-in loudspeaker. In order to use voice guidance, an optional car mounting kit with an built-in speaker or a headphone is required.

- Pitch and roll gauges show the vehicles angles, provide notifications and/or alarms at configurable angles.
- Electronic 3D compass to check heading while not moving¹, accuracy ±5°, resolution ±1°. "3D" means tilt-compensated compass which does not require the device to be level for accurate readings.
- Barometrical altimeter for precise elevation recording².
- Powered by rechargeable battery or by an external 12 V power source, e.g. from a car's cigarette lighter (power cord included). Rechargeable battery lasts about 3 h.
- Short time to first fix (TTFF³: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available).
- Firmware stored in Flash-Memory, can be updated by the user.
- Operating temperatures -20 .. 55°C (-4° .. 131°F).
- Highspeed USB interface, USB cable for data exchange with PC included.
- Dimensions: 199x122x24 mm (7.84x4.79x0.93 inches).
- Weight: 440 g (15.4 ounces).
- ¹) In order to check the heading with a GPS, a minimal movement with a speed of at least 5..8 km/h (3..5 mi/h) is required. Where no movement is not possible, a compass is needed.
- ²) Even though a GPS provides accurate elevation information, the value slightly varies continuously. A barometrical altimeter is therefore more accurate, especially when summarizing elevation changes.
- ³) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the current position is acquired.

- Stores up to 1'000 waypoints with name, icon, phone number and category.
- Information on the map displayed in 3 levels of details.
- Search for cities, addresses, points of interest - such as gas stations, restaurants, attractions, recreation, shopping, banks and ATMs, medical care, transportation etc., favorites, campgrounds and more.

Shows the current pitch and roll angles of the vehicle. The Overlander can alert optically and audible if configurable angles are exceeded. The warning angles must be set in advance and the device must be kept in the same relative position to the vehicle all the time. |

Depending on the distance and the available roads, the Overlander may suggest more than one route. It lists the estimated arrivale time, the estimated travel time and the distance of the different routes with the option to edit any of the routes. |

Maps:

If you connect the Overlander to a computer using an USB cable, you can use the maps on the computer as well if the free software GARMIN BaseCamp is installed. When you connect the Overlander to a computer for the first time, then the maps will be transfered to the computer. After that, the maps will be ready immediately. However, you must connect the Overlander each time in order to get access to the maps.
