GARMIN GPSMAP 66 series |
The models of the GPSMAP 66 series support the U.S. GPS and the European GALILEO satellites, the models GPSMAP 66s and 66st support also the Russian GLONASS satellites. The model GPSMAP 66sr supports all three systems simultaneously. The GPSMAP 66i supports sending and receiving short messages and triggering an interactive emergency call to GEOS via Iridium satellites from every location worldwide. |
Rugged hand held GPS devices with large color display, integrated base map, auto-routing, slot for uSD memory card, high-speed USB interface, electronic compass, barometrical altimeter, support for WiFi and wireless communication with compatible devices. The GPSMAP 66st/66sr/66i come furthermore with pre-installed maps TopoActive Europe. All models support the U.S. GPS and the European GALILEO satellites, the models GPSMAP 66s and 66st support also the Russian GLONASS satellites. The model GPSMAP 66sr supports GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO simultaneously (Multi-Band). The GPSMAP 66i is capable of sending and receiving short messages and triggering interactive emergency calls to GEOS via Iridium satellites from every location worldwide without the need of a mobile network (inReach subscription required).
The devices of the GARMIN GPSMAP 66 series are very easy to use thanks to their keys, user friendly graphical interface and support for multiple languages. These devices can not only receive the signals of the U.S. GPS satellites, but also those of the European GALILEO and the Russian GLONASS satellites (no GLONASS support on the 66i). This provides improved accuracy of the position indication, particularly under difficult conditions such as in cities with tall buildings, in
narrow valleys, near steep cliffs and in dense forests. This is especially helpful when searching for geocaches. The model GPSMAP 66sr can process the signals of all 3 systems simultaneously, which improves the accuracy of the position indication even further. They consume little power, one set of batteries lasts up to one week in expedition mode on the GPSMAP 66s/66st (two standard AA batteries). The GPSMAP 66sr and 66i have a built-in, rechargeable battery which lasts for up to
200 hours on the GPSMAP 66i, rsp. up to 450 hours on the GPSMAP 66sr. All models come with a pre-installed world-wide base map. They provide 15 GB rsp. 9 GB free built-in memory to store even more detailed information, such as local roads, restaurants, public buildings and other points of interest. They are equipped with a high-speed USB interface, a tilt-compensated electronic compass, a barometrical altimeter, can receive data from an optional heart rate monitor, an optional
speed/cadence sensor, an optional temperature sensor etc., can communicate via WiFi, exchange information wireless with compatible devices and they are equipped with a slot for an optional uSD memory card.
The GPSMAP 66st, GPSMAP 66sr and GPSMAP 66i come with pre-installed maps TopoActive Europe which support auto-routing. The extremely sensitive antenna provides navigation information outdoors, in cars, in trains or even in airplanes (see MapSource
examples).

All models provide generally the same functions. However, the GPSMAP 66st, GPSMAP 66sr and the GPSMAP 66i come with TopoActive Europe installed and the GPSMAP 66i does not support GLONASS but can additionally communicate via Iridium satellites and send emergency calls to GEOS:
